Father Thomas Keating is known throughout the world as an exponent, teacher, and writer on contemplative prayer. A Cistercian (Trappist) monk of St. Benedict's Monastery in Snowmass, Colorado, he is a founder of the Centering Prayer Movement and of Contemplative Outreach. He is the author of numerous books, particularly of the trilogy Open Mind, Open Heart; Invitation to Love; and The Mystery of Christ. Among his most recent books is The Daily Reader for Contemplative Living, compiled by S. Stephanie Iachetta. His website is contemplativeoutreach.org.Lucette Verboven is a Flemish writer and film producer. She holds a Master's degree in English Literature from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. This is a dialogue with a Flemish film producer (Lucite Verboten) and is especially helpful for those who are daily centering prayer practitioners. I especially liked Part Three which has Q&A with Abbot Joseph Boyle at St Benedict's monastery, Snowmass Colorado (where Father Thomas has lived for many years).
For several years, I have practiced Centering Prayer, which Fr. Thomas Keating helped articulate. This book explains this approach to prayer and in the process illuminates the beautiful soul of Fr. Keating. In his own words, he writes, "In the Christian tradition, we believe that Christ sacrificed Himself on the cross not just to redeem us from our sins and false selves, but to invite us into an intimacy with the divine reality that is inconceivable." For me, this book is an intimate love story. Beautiful!
It is an excellent summary of all of Keating's teaching for the past fifty years, combined with his continuing growth in the spiritual life and his delightful sense of humor.
This is a good book, one that I have read twice and get something out of it each time.
This book is clearly used and not new even though I paid the price for a new copy of this book.
What I like most is exactly what I expected -- an instructive and inspiring book, written in dialogue form, and opening meaningful paths to prayer.
Keating is always GOOD!
